Circular Business Models

AXEB participated in an information session, that took place on 17th May 2017, at ACCIO headquarters in Barcelona, bringing together several companies that are moving to circular business models. AXEB, in addition to innovate in biostimulants, plant nutrition and specialized fertilizers, research in differents projects to develop new technologies to achieve sustainable, competitive and high quality agriculture for a better world.

The session aimed to publicize business opportunities and innovation in circular economy; as well as the economic, social and environmental benefits it represents. Circular economy business models keep products and materials in use, by design, for as long as possible to get the maximum value from them.

A circular economy approach ensures that materials are retained within productive use, in a high value state, for as long as possible. It focuses on reshaping business and economic systems so that waste is ‘designed out’ of how we live. Circular economy business models can:

  • Offer new commercial opportunities
  • Contribute to business growth and sustainability
  • Generate new revenue
  • Transform a business’s relationship with its customers
  • Protect our economy against resource shortages and the rising cost of materials.

AXEB Biotech attended this session and had the chance to share its experience as a partner from Agrocycle, emphasizing how the circular economy presents new opportunities and allows businesses to create more value and gain a competitive advantage. The project  led by the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering at University College Dublin, the consortium of 26 partners comprises partners from 8 EU countries, two partners from mainland China, and one from Hong Kong.

The project takes a holistic approach to understanding and addressing how to make best use of the full range of waste streams associated with the agri-food industry. It will deliver the AgroCycle Protocol, a blueprint for achieving sustainable agri-food waste valorisation. For further details about Agrocyle project, please check the following link: www.agrocycle.eu
